Semaglutide is a man-made analogue of glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1). GLP-1 is a peptide naturally produced in the human body that controls blood sugar levels. It reportedly stimulates beta cells in the pancreas to release insulin and suppresses glucagon release from alpha pancreatic cells.
